Don't use the word new in the title

Have you noticed that there seems to be an obligitory "here's my new blog" entry in every new blog. OK, I haven't either, but it seems like something everyone would do, so I'm going to rail against that for a while.

It seems that the first entry always has to introduce the author (I could say, Hi, I'm Jeff, I work for a tech company and do volunteer emergency services work), include all the goals and hopes for the blog (I have none), or at least acknowledge that there are no hopes and goals (See?).

Overall, unless the author is intending to set out objectives that can be compared against later, this ends up being a pretty useless entry.

On the other hand, I'd much rather use the first entry to go on a completely useless analysis of supposed first blog entries, which I hope to actually research and find data to support my suppositions.

The point is, don't start a blog with "this is my new blog". Just jump right in, and make people catch up. And by all means, don't use the word "new" in the title of the first entry!

Big meeting tomorrow, lots of work to do, time to move on
