Home Sweet home

Well, who would have thunk it? It turns out that you can be happy to be home, even from Hawaii!

I think maybe that's a good side effect of air travel being such a pain in the butt, you're so happy it's over you forget you have to go back to work.

Well, like I said, the Hawaii trip is over, after 7 days. We had a lot of fun, pictures to come, I'm sure. The interesting one is that we got to "snuba." Neither Rachel or Brandon is dive certified, so we found a place tat would let you do the "snuba", which is a combination of snorkling and scuba diving. You basically get to dive down to about 20 feet, with a regular scuba regulator and weightbelt, but no BC or tank.

The tank is on an inflatable raft above you. No cert required, you're basically tethered to the raft, and the only skills you really need are equalizing pressure for your ears and clearing your mask. Brandon took to it like a fish once he got the proper weights. He had a hard time getting down at first...

I'm sure pictures will be on the Gallery real soon, so keep your eyes open.

Ho Hum

Well, I got an email from my sister over the weekend (Hi Gertie!) just checking in.

I did work on a couple web pages, ours (you got there already) and the one for Falls Fire Department. I added a gallery for the Fire Department, but had to host it on CyberSchneider. Shhhh.... don't tell them, I hid it behind frames and such.

Brandon and I stayed up at the station last night for Duty Crew, and faithful Tony was there. Now, Matt... He doesn't call, he doesn't write...

We also got the truck washed over the weekend, but it's already been completely trashed by birds and blowers.

Is there some kind of signal sent out? I wash the truck, and on the way in to work I have to drive past two (2!) landscape guys blowing dust all over the truck. What's up with that?

Anyway... back to work.

Saturday Morning

It's Saturday morning, and not too much is coming to mind. Normal Saturday fog, I guess.

Last Night Brandon and I went to Company training with the Fire Dept. Could have used a few more people showing up, but it worked out. I got to drive one of the trucks, the more I do that, the more fun it is. Big red truck with red blinky lights!

Brandon climbed a ladder, which was an adventure for him. We'll see how he feels about it next time.

I'm currently trying to mess with rsync... not sure how that's working... need to do some more reading I think.

We did end a fantastic quarter at work, biggest in company history. New quarter is already here, time to go to work!

The obligatory entry

This is an "obligatory" entry. I really can't think of anything to say, but like a soon to be forgotten new years resolution, I'm trying to write every day or two.

Brandon did a presentation on Wilber Wright at school yesterday, it's cool seeing him get interested in something and actually spending time to find out about it. He's still banging away on the piano, it's actually awesome to watch him tear through a songbook...

Tonight we do company training at the Fire Dept. Shhh... don't tell anyone, but Brandon will be there too...

6 months? WTH?

It's hard to believe, but it's been 6 months since I've contributed to this. Hmm... I'll need to figure out how to change that.

BTW, before I forget, I wanted to explain WTH. Stands for What The Heck. Used instead of the more accepted WTF, because my mother may read this some day (HI MOM!!).

Well, we've made some improvements to the web site. In reverse order, I put an actual link to the BLOG (Mom, that stands for weB LOG) on the page.

Before that, we put up some photo album software called Gallery that will make updating and commenting on photo albums much easier. As a matter of fact, there should be no excuses for Rachel not to be able to update photo albums quite often. No excuse at all. Rachel? No excuse? Rachel?

You can see the new albums here

In the meantime I've also started (poorly) to maintain the Falls Fire Department web site www.fallsfd.com.

We've done a live burn (pictures in the photo albums) and a practice burn at the Wake County Fire Training Center tower. Once again proving I'm not as young or as in shape as I used to be. We did, however, learn a whole lot.

In the meantime, I've driven and pumped the trucks a little, which is cool.

Brandon and Rachel have a new piano, which will keep them busy. Despite Mom and Dad's generous offer of the piano at there house, it turns out that it's a WHOLE lot easier and less expensive to have a piano moved from around the corner than from Illinois!

Next we're going to learn about BLOG pinging...
