So, over the last couple of days I've revisited some technologies. Installed Node manager for windows, mrtg, rrd, etc. That was fun.
I set up a new firewall on an small system with a flash card. running like a champ, and takes about 1/8 of the space of the old PC based system that was running off a CD... which was also pretty cool.
Topic change... So, I'm talking to my Dad the other day (IMing with him) and he asks if I saw the comments he put on the blog. How cool is that. Dad's retired, and he could be spending all of his time fishing. Instead, he only spends most of his time fishing...
Well, otherwise life is pretty routine. Looking for work, doing yardwork, making dinner...
Rachel found a job last week, working for D. Miller and Associates, an engineering firm. So far it sounds like she is enjoying getting back into the work routine.
I'm still looking for work, hoping to stay in the Raleigh area, but willing to relocate for the right position (or A position, maybe!).
Weekend was spent doing useful things, like replacing the sink in the kitchen, and catching up on some technical skills that have been getting a little rusty.
Right now I've got a streaming feed from the SpaceShipOne launch, which will be the first non-government spaceship to fly in outer space and land again. Sketchy on the details, but this sounds like a test flight to get ready for the X-Prize flight http://www.xprize.org/, the prize worth $10 million. Requires 2 flights 14 days apart with 3 people of the weight equivalent of 3 people onboard (or that's what they're saying on the news).
Really cool stuff, wonder how long before a commercial exploration of the moon is accomplished. Could you imagine a world where their would have to be a "memorial" or park established to keep someone from running over the US flag planted on the moon with one of those big wheeled vehicles out of a sci-fi movie? I wonder what jurisdiction that would fall under. I think the national parks fall under the department of the interior... and that definitely doesn't qualify as interior. Of course, it would probably fall under some consortium of countries, or the UN... don't think the world would just lie back and let the US lay claim to the moon...
Anyway, back to the job search.
