long time, no write

Well, haven't updated this in a while. Same old stuff going on, seems like. First, Brandon still seems to be having a good time in IL visiting family. He's got more adventures ahead, but I think Rachel is ready for him to be home. I guess I am to :).

Rachel is still enjoying her job, seems like she's cracking the whip over there, and is making great progress.

I'm still looking for work, no luck so far. still plugging away though!

Last week I broke the most important rule I learned when I joined the Navy:
N.ever
A.gain
V.olunteer
Y.ourself

And decided to help Shane move his kids swingset and playhouse from the old house to the new house. I think I've finally recovered! Larry and Robert Davis were similarly afflicted with bad judgement and showed up as well.

We had a hard time with the fort style swingset, despite being the four body-builder types we are, but the playhouse! It was apparently built in place, and the next time I need a tornado shelter, I'm gonna get one of these!

The four of us pretty much couldn't move the playhouse as it was. So, after a hour or so of work, we had removed the base of the playhouse, where we figured most of the weight was. We figured wrong. After much discussion, a couple of brilliant engineering minds, and a couple of borrowed 2x4's, we'd rigged a couple handles and managed to get the thing moved. 2 feet at a time, but moved.

Can't think of much else going on. About to read Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson again, found a hardback copy for $5, so I decided to pick it up, since it's a pretty good read. Still like Snow Crash more though. I mean, someone who has a main character called Hiro Protagonist has to have a unique way of looking at the world, right?
